Transição

Em 2008, a maior parte dos pessoas fora dos EUA não tinha noção da enorme crise que se ia atravessar. Felizmente, o governo americano tinha noção da gravidade da situação e, mesmo antes de Barack Obama ser eleito, já se faziam preparações para que a transição fosse o mais eficiente possível. Falou-se até na possibilidade de Obama tomar a rédea da presidência antes da data normal, que é 20 de Janeiro. A eleições são a 4 de Novembro.

Destaco a seguinte passagem, talvez seja útil em Portugal para a semana--notem que nem sempre as transições de governo nos EUA foram uma coisa pacífica, mas quando o país está em crise, é necessário defender os interesses da nação antes dos interesses partidários. Espero que os partidos portugueses estejam à altura na próxima semana. Portugal pode entrar numa nova crise muito facilmente.

Part of this enhanced cooperation is required by laws passed at the behest of the 9/11 Commission, while part is attributed to the difficulty that the Bush administration had with its own transition, which lasted only five weeks and was felt to have had a deleterious effect on Bush's ability to govern. "I'm not sure I've ever seen an outgoing administration work as hard at saying the right thing", said Stephen Hess of the Brookings Institution. "This is really quite memorable."
