No Tennessee

Nos EUA também há deputados que perdem tempo com coisas estranhas, como um do Senado do Tennessee, Steve Southerland, Republicano, que quer muito que a Bíblia seja o livro oficial do estado -- ele é um "ordained minister". No ano passado, a proposta de lei não passou; mas este ano, voltaram a tentar e foi aprovada. O Governador do TN, Bill Haslan, também Republicano, vetou a lei e demonstrou extremo bom senso pois, na justificação do seu veto, utiliza bons argumentos que têm também a virtude de agradar a gregos e a troianos:

“In addition to the constitutional issues with the bill, my personal feeling is that this bill trivializes the Bible, which I believe is a sacred text,” Haslam (R) wrote in a letter to the speaker of the statehouse.

“If we believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, then we shouldn’t be recognizing it only as a book of historical and economic significance,” continued Haslam. “If we are recognizing the Bible as a sacred text, then we are violating the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Tennessee by designating it as the official state book.”

O Senado ainda pode anular o veto do Governador usando apenas uma maioria simples dos votos. Vamos lá ver até onde irá a idiotice; se continuarem, ainda chega ao SCOTUS, o Supremo Tribunal aqui da terra.
